RESEARCH: WEST NILE VIRUS RESOURCES
A team of researchers, epidemiologists and software developers at Boston Children's Hospital developed an online system which monitors online news aggregators, eyewitness reports, expert-curated discussions and validated official reports to show a map of possible emerging diseases. The version on our site is restricted to West Nile Virus, but you may see the full HealthMap tool at www.healthmap.org.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) maintains a sophisticated disease surveillance system to monitor animals and insects that can potentially carry the virus, and has information for the public as well as health care providers.
The CDC's West Nile Virus page covers the United States, and has resources for the general public, healthcare providers, and vector control professionals.

To help DuPage County residents protect themselves against West Nile virus (WNV), the DuPage County Health Department has created a Personal Protection Index (PPI) that informS residents of the amount of WNV activity in the county, as well as prevention steps that are recommended. It is updated every Wednesday during the summer WNV season.
